On Saturday, May 5, 2018, the community of Mt. Horeb will rally together with a Walk for Water to give hope to those who lack access to safe water. It’s an event that will change lives around the world forever through the gift of safe water. Join hundreds as we walk so others won’t have to.
Why Walk? Every day, millions of women and children in developing countries walk an average of 3 miles to retrieve water for their family’s daily needs. In most cases, after walking for miles, the water they retrieve to drink and cook with is from an open water source and is often contaminated.
Our Walk for Water will simulate this trek to raise awareness of the global water crisis here in our community. Each participant will start the Walk for Water with an empty bucket. Remember to bring a bucket, pail, milk jug, etc. to carry water. Half-way through the walk, they will fill that bucket with water from Stewart Lake and walk back for the remainder of the course. We hope that all participants end the Walk for Water with a better understanding of the challenges people around the world face daily in search of something that we often take for granted – water.
Proceeds: This fundraising event is sponsored by Immanuel Lutheran Church and all proceeds will go to Living Water International to be used to cover the costs incurred to drill a well in a small village in Honduras that lacks clean water. It costs approx. $5500 to drill a well in Central America with Living Water International. From June 9-16, a mission team from the Mt. Horeb and Madison area will travel to Honduras to partner with Living Water International to help drill this well for a small community near La Ceiba, Honduras that lacks access to clean water.
