Bring your dancing shoes and enjoy an evening of old-time Scandinavian and Scandinavian-American schottishes and waltzes, polkas, hopp-waltzes and two-steps!
Foot-Notes, from Decorah, Iowa, carries on a tradition of monthly old time dances in a rustic two-room schoolhouse in rural Iowa. They enjoy playing a solid repertoire of dance tunes from the house party days of the early 1900s, plus a few favorite Swedish, Finnish, Faroese, Russian, Irish, and American couple, group and mixer dances.
This free event is part of the 3-day World Records Symposium: Sustaining Scandinavian Folk Music in the Upper Midwest, April 12-14 at the UW-Madison campus. An exploration of the documentation and revitalization efforts of Scandinavian musical traditions on both sides of the Atlantic, the Symposium brings together artists and academics in roundtable discussions, concerts, and presentations.
