Have you been stuck at home for far too long? Ready to grab your gal pals and hit the road? Mount Horeb has everything you need for a girls’ weekend away. Any vacation is a good vacation, but unplugging with your best gals is truly the best. Whether you’re looking for a weekend full of relaxation, shopping, or adventure, Mount Horeb makes for perfect girlfriends’ escape. Enjoy delicious food and drinks, stop into the many boutique-style shops on Main Street, and enjoy the numerous attractions in the area! Book your hotel room early! The summer is the busy season for our local hotels, motels, and B&Bs. The GrandStay Hotel & Suites offers an indoor pool and hot tub, as well as a hot buffet breakfast in the morning. Rob and Jill will welcome you to their home, Sunniva Inn Bed & Breakfast, which will quickly feel like your home away from home. The Little Village is a newly refurbished motel right off of the Military Ridge Bike Trail, and just a short walk from downtown Mount Horeb. Thinking about a midweek getaway? Avoid some of the crowd and ask about special discounted room rates during the week!
Time to get shopping! Your first stop should be at McFee on Main, where you will have a truly one-of-a-kind shopping experience. Explore impeccable clothing lines and modern home décor, or pick up some gifts to bring home to the kids, all while sipping some bubbly and getting to know owner Lynn McFee and her team. Do you love Mount Horeb’s trolls? Swing into Open House Imports and take some troll momentos home with you. You can talk to owner Janice and find out what the deal is with these trolls, anyway? (She should know – she and her husband George are credited with starting the troll craze!) For all things Wisconsin, don’t miss KELLA, a unique family-run design and retail shop featuring Wisconsin-made items. This is a great place to pick up a magnet to remember your trip, a Wisconsin-shaped charcuterie board, a T-shirt or cap, and many other fun midwesty treasures.
Jangle Natural Living is a brand new shop featuring more locally produced goods. Owner Janelle Holmstrom sells her soaps and other products from Jangle Soapworks, a local favorite. Pick up gifts, something for yourself, or just stop by and inhale deeply. It smells sooooo good. Across the street, stop in at Bergey Jewelry, a small-town neighborhood jewelry store. This family business has beautiful historical character and offers a wide selection of jewelry and gifts, including an entire section devoted to pieces made by local artists. Did your necklace break during the drive over? They offer repair services, too!
Right next door is Sunn Café, a special dining experience. Have a seat in vintage school chairs or at the bar made from a repurposed bowling lane. The menu is fresh and sustainably produced, and you can grab a salad, a glass of white wine, and one of their insanely popular bran muffins for dessert (if there are any left!). For those who love to support local and get a little crunchy, Brix Cider is a true farm-to-table experience. Pair some locally grown and brewed cider with a delicious meal with ingredients straight from a local farm, and have a true Wisconsin experience.
Do your gals love getting out into nature? Cave of the Mounds isn’t just for the kids. Did you know they host after hours events? Watch for their Cave After Dark series, featuring cocktails and music in the visitor center and sometimes in the cave! If you are a planner, book a session at Board & Brush and make some gorgeous wooden DIY projects to bring home. Owner Lindsay and her team will provide the materials and the tools (and of course, the wine!) and you just bring your creativity and your chit chat! Speaking of wine, stop by Botham Vineyards for a wine tasting while you soak in some beautiful country air. What’s more perfect than attending their Girlfriends’ Night Out – Little Black Dress Edition, happening on June 16? Buy your tickets now! You will have the time of your life in a beautiful setting.
After the year we’ve had you deserve to get out with the girls and explore. Leave the stresses at home, invest in you, and nurture your friendships. Mount Horeb is a great community with a small-town vibe and a big heart, offering lots to do, lots to taste, and lots to explore. Get out there and Eat, Shop, Troll.
