Fall is in the air, and that means spooky season is upon us! In the heart of Wisconsin lies the charming village of Mount Horeb, famously known as the Troll Capital of the World. While this quirky town is a haven for troll enthusiasts year-round, Halloween transforms Mount Horeb into a magical, spooky destination for families and thrill-seekers alike. Whether you’re a local or a visitor looking to immerse yourself in the Halloween spirit, this guide will help you navigate the best spooky-season activities in Mount Horeb!

Family-friendly Halloween Activities

The Creepy Crawl is a haunted hike on the Military Ridge Trail from 4th Street to 2nd Street on Thursday, October 24 put on by the Mount Horeb Recreation Department. Take a hike through part of the Military Ridge Trail lit by pumpkins and lined with spooks and scares of all kinds (caution to parents/caregivers: this hike may scare children of any age and will include scary costumes and props).

The less scary experience will run from 6-7:15pm and the scarier experience will run from 7:30-8:30pm. This event begins at the 4th street entrance of the Military Ridge Trail and will end at 2nd Street near the Mt. Horeb Station Shelter. Cost is $2.00 per person (pay on site).
After the hike is complete, there will be fun for all ages including hay wagon rides, Haven’s Petting Zoo, cider and candy! There will also be a kettle corn vendor and cotton candy vendor selling yummy treats.

Trunk or Treat
Also on October 24, there will be a Trunk or Treat event sponsored by the Mount Horeb Police Department.

Pumpkin Carving Contest will also be taking place on October 24 with proceeds going to Porchlight, Inc.

Terror at Tyrol

Just on the outskirts of town, this thrilling haunted trail weaves through the dense Wisconsin woods, where you’ll encounter terrifying creatures, unexpected scares and spooks lurking in the shadows. 5 terrifying experiences all in 1 haunted attraction! You’ll begin your evening riding up the chairlift and quickly remember why you fear the dark 😉 Tickets are available online.

Witches Night Out

Grab your fellow witches and your brooms and head out to downtown Mount Horeb and enjoy a night on the Trollway! Register at the Chamber of Commerce Welcome Center and pick up your passport, which will show you which shops and restaurants are participating. Check out special menu items or signature cocktails at participating restaurants. New this year! Restaurants and bars can offer you glass of potion that you can bring it with you while you shop! Lots of witchy activities, and more!

Think you’re the best-dressed witch? Enter the costume contest when you register. All attendees will be invited to vote for their favorite witch through an online platform and the winner will be announced Monday, October 21, via email and on social media.
